In a bold move aimed at redefining mobile connectivity convenience, Zomato-owned Blinkit has teamed up with Bharti Airtel to offer 10-minute SIM card delivery across 16 Indian cities. This partnership marks a significant milestone in the rapid commerce space, blending hyperlocal delivery capabilities with essential telecom services.

Announced by Blinkit cofounder and CEO Albinder Dhindsa on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the service promises lightning-fast delivery of Airtel SIM cards to customers’ doorsteps. The offering includes options for new prepaid and postpaid connections, as well as mobile number portability (MNP) — allowing users to switch their existing number to Airtel with ease.
“Starting today, customers can get a SIM delivered and choose to get a new prepaid or postpaid connection, or switch their existing number to Airtel,” Dhindsa said in his announcement.
Available in 16 Cities
The service has been rolled out in key urban centers including:
- Delhi
- Gurugram
- Faridabad
- Sonipat
- Ahmedabad
- Surat
- Chennai
- Bhopal
- Indore
- Bengaluru
- Mumbai
- Pune
- Lucknow
- Jaipur
- Kolkata
- Hyderabad
These cities were strategically chosen due to their high demand for both rapid delivery services and strong mobile connectivity.
How It Works
Users can access the service directly through the Blinkit app, where they will find an option to order an Airtel SIM card. A delivery executive will arrive within 10 minutes, carrying out the KYC (Know Your Customer) verification on the spot. Once the verification is complete, the SIM card is activated shortly after — eliminating the need to visit a physical store or wait in queues.
This is particularly beneficial for busy professionals, elderly individuals, or anyone looking for a hassle-free mobile connection setup.
Disrupting the Telecom Retail Experience
This initiative aligns with both Airtel’s and Blinkit’s focus on customer-first innovations. For Airtel, it strengthens its physical distribution model by integrating into Blinkit’s ultra-fast delivery ecosystem. For Blinkit, it further diversifies its service offerings beyond groceries and essentials, moving into high-demand services like telecom.
This isn’t the first time telecom operators have ventured into faster delivery, but delivering SIM cards in just 10 minutes is a first-of-its-kind in India. It sets a new benchmark in quick commerce and highlights how hyperlocal logistics can be used for more than just food and groceries.
What’s Next?
As the demand for fast, digital-first experiences continues to rise, the success of this pilot rollout could prompt expansions to more cities and telecom providers. With consumers growing increasingly accustomed to instant gratification, this partnership is a clear indicator of where the future of customer service and telecom retail is heading.
